AUSTIN, TEXAS, APRIL 29, 2015 – The International Order of the Golden Rule (OGR) is proud to announce that Oliverie Funeral Home, Manchester Township, NJ is the recipient of the 2015 Golden Rule Community Service Award. OGR is the world’s leading professional association dedicated to making independent funeral homes exceptional. The Golden Rule Community Service Award, now in its sixth year, is awarded in recognition of a funeral home’s outstanding community service as demonstrated by involvement benefiting local organizations or community events.

Oliverie Funeral Home contacted their local Rite Aid Pharmacy and requested that their funeral home be set up as an offsite clinic. Oliverie hosted a free flu clinic in their parking lot for the senior citizens in the surrounding community. They even provided payment for any insurance co-pays or deductibles that participants were unable to afford. They were able to help provide inoculations to the local community, and participants spoke to the onsite pharmacist, nurse and Rite Aid personnel about the risks and benefits of the flu shots. Over all, the community was educated and inoculated no matter the age, gender, race or ability to pay.

“This event is a fine example of a funeral home going beyond what is expected and contributing to the wellbeing of its surrounding community and is true to the Golden Rule,” said Bud Wieting, OGR’s outgoing president.
