OGR Wins Award for Grief Support Program
The Indiana Society of Association Executives recognized the association for its membership program. 

The International Order of the Golden Rule (OGR) was honored with an Award of Excellence at the Indiana Society of Association Executives 22nd Annual Star Awards held on December 6. The awards program recognizes associations for demonstrating excellence in innovation, membership programs, community service and more. 

The award was given to OGR for its Hope After Heartache Grief Support Group. The grief support program, provided at no cost to OGR members, enables funeral homes to extend valuable support to the families they serve. 

"For most funeral homes, grief support is a problem looking for a solution, so our members have been grateful to have this benefit available to them with no added cost," said Nancy Weil, OGR's Member Resources Director. 

Weil is a licensed therapist who co-facilitates the group. 

As part of the grief support program, association members receive a templated letter containing login details for the virtual support group that meets twice monthly. Funeral homes provide the letters to their families as a free resource. Over 160 people have come through the support group since it started the zoom format in 2020. 

Hope after heartache also offers a private Facebook group where members continue to support one another in between support group sessions. Funeral homes are also given resource materials to assist the families who come through their doors, including a brochure listing national loss-specific groups, blogs, and grief videos to post on their websites.
